My own personal energy supply
I personally have a small energy backup supply.
We have several computers and high power devices in our household and this makes it difficult to provide 24 hour a day energy to our household.
My energy sources:
Utility (my main supply)
There's not a lot to say about this supply but its the only real way to completely power our household with the demand we have.
60 watt solar panel array
Consisted of 4 x 15 watt panels this charged 1 x 85 amp hour 12 volt battery and has a 600watt inverter attached to it.
it provides me with 0.48KWH per day which isn't a whole lot but if you leave it to charge for a few days it will give you a good 8 hours of laptop power.
1000 watt petrol generator
I mainly use this for camping trips / outdoor DIY purposes because its light (in comparison!) and portable.
4000 watt suzuki LPG generator
This is the bulk of my backup system it can provide me with 4KWH per hour of power and runs on propane instead of diesel,
which is a more cleaner burning fuel than diesel.
That's my system at the minute, it is only a backup supply for emergencies and has no chance of providing for my entire household.
One day I hope to invest in more solar and wind power and tip the balance, hopefully the prices of these will come down in the future.
